The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has transitioned its previous, ten-digit suicide prevention lifeline to the three-digit number:
9-8-8
which offers compassionate, accessible care and support to anyone experiencing mental health-related distress. Americans can also dial 988 if they are worried about a loved one who may need crisis support. The 988 network, which is made up of over 200 centers answering calls, chats, and texts, is looking to bring on new volunteers and paid employees.
