ParticipantGood morning Teaching Tech 2 class. Here is what caught my eye from chapters 11 and 12.
Chapter 11 key points for me.
Try and create exciting, fun ways to learn, but at the same time it has to be effective. Keep the audience interested in the content with fun games but having an instructional purpose. I thought the different candy suggestion was kind of different… a honest fair way to break up sub groups.
Chapter 12 key points for me.
I really appreciated how the four levels of training evaluation was broken down and explained. Level 3 behavior was stood out. For me, I set my apprentice classes up with real job situations. My thought process is good habits in training and class, reflects good habits in the field. Lets make all of our mistakes together in the training center where only we see, that way when that apprentice sees that same situation in the field, he/she will know exactly what to do and hit a homerun when it counts…

ParticipantGood morning Teaching Tech class. I’ve decided to try this icebreaker for my next class. No way I get crickets on this one. HaHaHaHa.
Trading card icebreaker: Have everyone make trading cards of their personalities.
– hand out index cards and markers or pens, pencils
– tell everyone to make a self portrait, write their name, nickname or imaginary name. Also, have them include a fun fact about themselves.
– everyone jumps up and trades cards with another person. after cards are exchanged, each person reads the cards.
– after a few minutes go by, have everyone announce the name on the card. the others can ask questions about the cards, and the conversations can flow from there.

ParticipantHello Michelle,
I just finished the homework. I enjoyed the module on “How adults learn”. Hopefully I can use this information when I start preparing for journeyman upgrade classes here at DC 57 In Pittsburgh. Thanks for helping me understand different teaching techniques. Hope to see you soon and get to experience your class live. Have a nice evening.

ParticipantHello Everyone.
The things I took away from chapter 2 are:
Adults learn very differently
Learning styles and How’s and Why”s on how people learn
To prepare in a way that I do not deliver cognitive overload
The things I took away from chapter 4 are:
I recognized that there might be age diversity in the classroom, and the students learn differently.
That my own behavior as a trainer has an impact on how the students react.
That as a trainer, I have to assess my group and adjust. I would not teach a journeyman upgrade class the same as I would teach a group of first year apprentices. I feel as a trainer, you have to know your audience, adjust your style to that group, and teach them the necessary knowledge to succeed.
See you guys this afternoon,
Thad
